Wang Saotong Waterfall – One of the Most Idyllic Natural Marvels in Koh Samui

Koh Samui is a world-famous tropical retreat found in the Gulf of Thailand. The island of Samui appears on the east coast of Southern Thailand. It is among the largest islands in Thailand, making it stand out from among its fellows in the archipelago, which forms the Ang Thong National Marine Park. The booming tourism industry that its beaches attract makes it a commercialized hotbed of entertainment and international-standard recreation.

Chaweng and Lamai are by far the most coveted, while those seeking a quieter time would prefer the nearby villages of Bophut, Bang Rak and Choeng Mon, as well as other west coast beaches. Koh Samui is home to 40,000 people, with the sparkling spires of Buddhist Wats dominating the jewel-toned landscape. Surrounded by warm blue-green waters, the palm-fringed shorelines of the island melds into plantations of fruit among the lower lands before steadily rising up to a granite centrepiece encircled by the lush emerald canopy of a virgin rainforest.

Although the entire length and breadth of the isle can be circumnavigated by car of motorbike, the island holds a plethora of delights for the adventure seeker and nature lover. Braving the river rapids in a kayak, snorkelling to the vibrant seabed, surfing, trekking and hiking amongst the lush foliage and rockery of the unsullied forest are all activities that lure tourists to the island in their thousands each year.

The waterfalls of Koh Samui are among the most rewarding and picturesque natural attractions that the hills of the island tempts travellers to uncover. They provide atmosphere’s of serenity and refreshing coolness ideal as picnic spots in the balmy sunshine. Some of the calmer and shallower pools even allow for a relaxing dip in its cool and limpid waters.

The Wang Saotong waterfall takes a place of honour among the aforementioned cascades of Samui. The waterfall can be accessed through a scenic and leisurely one kilometre trek among the forest and exotic flora, a path through which has only been cleared for the public in recent times.

Travellers need only to make a right at the Wat Kunaram 4169 Ring Road that appears within proximity to Ban Tha Po located between Hua Thanon and Nathon. From here, one must drive uphill for approximately 2 kilometres, past the Baan Chang Elephant Trekking. One may enjoy discovering the waterfall and surrounding scenery on the back of a tame elephant that can be hired from this place.

The waterfall itself is a stunning and relatively tall cascade, rippling like transparent torrents of silk over many tiers of smooth granite rock. It is fringed beautifully by many species of exotic foliage, flowing into stone basins and rock pools on the way down. It is advisable to bring plenty of food and drink here as this is an idyllic picnic spot, where one can simply rest and soak up the sheer beauty and bounty of nature.

Wang Saotong waterfall and many other natural gems of the island can be explored by anyone making an extended stay at a Koh Samui hotel or resort. Anantara Bophut Koh Samui is a luxury Samui resort in the tranquil stretch of coast in Bophut, filled with seductive comfort and surrounded by immersive elegance and beauty.
