Puerto Rico – An Exquisite Destination

Puerto Rico is famous as an exquisite holiday destination. Vacations in Puerto Rico can be a lot more than sand and sun. Plenty of opportunities like kayaking through wild water that sparkles during the dark, wandering through old Spanish fortresses, walking amid a rainforest and taking a quite walk through Spanish fortresses is offered by Puerto Rico.

Both English and Spanish happened to be the official languages of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico’s local currency is US dollars and as a resident of the United States, you don’t even need a passport or visa to enter Puerto Rico. You can send mail through US postal services using the same rates as you use on the mainland.

More than 4 million people reside on this island of enchantment, out of which around 1 million live in San Juan metropolitan area. Puerto Rico has modern, vibrant, bilingual and multi-cultural society that is an interesting mixture of African, Spanish, US and Indian influences. Puerto Rico has a lot in common with continental United States simultaneously hosting a Hispanic heritage.

The climate of Puerto Rico is nearly perfect and stays between 83 °F during winters to 85°F during summers. One can say that it’s always summer in Puerto Rico. The coastal towns are always cooled by the Trade winds and as you go up to the higher mountains you’ll find a drop in temperature. Puerto Rico falls in the Atlantic Time zone but it does not observe the Daylight Saving Time. Since the standard US electric current parameters are maintained in Puerto Rico, American appliances do not require any adapter.

The best attraction of Puerto Rico are it’s three bioluminescent bays. The water of these bays appears to be phosphorescent. This happens due to the presence of light-emitting microscopic organisms in the water. These bays are located at La Parguera between Ponce and Mayaguea, Laguna Grande in Fajardo and Mosquito Bay in Vieques. In order to see the light emission phenomena you can kayak after dark. In fact a lot of people planned trips to these bays during moonless nights in order to have a great visual experience.

El Yunque is a rainforest in Puerto Rico that introduce its visitors with 240 vivid species of trees, dense of foliage; “el coquí,” sound of the tree frogs and endangered parrot species. Old San Juan that is known for multicultural influences is also worth visiting. Old San Juan features three colonial fortresses. Puerto Rico’s national dish is “mofongo” and while you’re here you must have it.
