World summer games to relieve disable people
A big affair was held in Shanghai in 2007. There were Shanghai Special Olympic World Summer Games in 2007 for masses who suffer from intellectual disabilities.
That affair was held in Asia for the first time and it was only the second time it took place beyond the country of the US. It was organized by the Special Olympic organization.
Special Olympic Games and Paralympics are two absolutely different international organizations that take aim to help intellectually disqualifying people win in sports contests and be productive members of society. It is the main organizer of Special Olympic World Games held every four years, offering adults and children participate in 25 summer and winter competitions.
The most surprising fact is that this influential and spread organisation was introducted by a simple PT teacher in the United States of America! Now the work of this organization spreads far beyond the borders of its birthplace.
A great number of those people from all the continents came to Shanghai to participate or just to view the competitions. 7, 500 special athletes came to participate in Special Olympic World Summer Games, including the top of the 2 500 000 participants who competed in 165 countries to take part in the games. They became a persuasive ground of the fact that Special Olympic Games is for those individuals who managed to overtake their problems. A great number of officials, families, volunteers, spectators and journalists were also present at this competition.
Special Olympic Games athletes competed in 25 different sports: bowling, cricket, cycling, dragon boat racing, horseman, aquatics, athletics, badminton, basketball, bocci, football (soccer), golf, gymnastics, judo, kayaking, lion dancing, power-lifting, roller skating, sailing, softball, ping-pong, team handball, tennis, volleyball, motor activities.
