Sea Kayaking in Milford Sound, New Zealand
I have just recently visited Queenstown in New Zealand, and wanted to do as much sight seeing and activities as possible. One of the things on my list was Milford Sound which is about a 4 hours drive away from Queenstown, it is a lovely drive with stunning scenery, and is worth going just for that. I have always been a fan of the water and have put my hand to many water sports like windsurfing, surfing, and kayaking, so Milford Sound was right up my street as I fancied a wildlife adventure.
I came across Roscos Milford Sound Sea Kayaks online when I was browsing for guided trips in New Zealand. He had a lot of options for all different types of sea kayaking trips, and is New Zealands longest running sea kayaking business so I reckoned he would be me best bet. And I was right. I booked up a Sunriser Classic which is the original trip, the 7.15am start didn’t put me off and there were 7 of us in total ready to start our sea kayaking adventure in Milford Sound.
We were each given a sea kayak and were all kitted up in waterproofs, life jackets and helmets, and give an informative run down. We paddled in a massive loop of Milford Sound, and it was amazing. I felt tiny with all the mountains and passing mile high Mitre Peak! It is a spectacular setting, and as they had a lot of rain the day before the waterfalls were in full force. It was very rocky and very green with native forest throughout all the nooks and crannies. We saw seals sunning themselves on the rocks, and I thought they are very lucky to have the beautiful Milford Sound to call home. We stopped for lunch, which helped refuel the tanks, and we were away again on the way back. The sun was shining as we paddled back to shore and it was jaw droppingly beautiful, with all sunlight reflecting off the water, I took so many photos I will have to make up a separate ‘sea kayaking in Milford Sound’ album.
Roscos Milford Sound Sea Kayaks trip was a highlight to my holiday in New Zealand, they say in the 101 things to do in NZ as kiwi is Milford Sound, I think it is something everyone should do. Check out roscosmilfordkayaks.com
