A Guide to Lorne
Situated to the southwest of Melbourne, in the Victorian region of the Great Ocean Road, lays a small township that thrives during certain times of the year. It is located along the main highway that runs with the coastline of the southern fringes of Victoria. From Melbourne, which is the capital of state, the town is only a two hour drive, and from Geelong it is even shorter.
During the warmer months of the year, and in particular the school holiday period over the Christmas break, the city becomes ambushed with tourists and visitors looking to escape the rat race that is life in urban Australia. Therefore, this is when Lorne hotels are at their busiest, so making a reservation before arrivals would be very beneficial.
There are some magnificent things to do while staying in the town. Getting around the settlement can mostly be done on foot if tourists stay inside the town. However, taxis and car rental are also available.

Lorne Country Club: the famous Lorne Country Club has a fantastic reputation for its beautiful greens, stunningly landscaped fairways and relaxing atmosphere. It is a very respectable golf links, visited by golfers from all over Victoria.
Lorne Pier: the Lorne Pier is a popular feature of the town. It is located at the city’s foreshore, and provides a convenient place to enjoy some of the most popular past times in Lorne. There are restaurants close to the pier, especially some seafood beauties, and visitors can always spend an afternoon, evening, night or entire day fishing off the pier.
Teddy’s Lookout: this beautiful lookout is the best place in the town to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding region. Visitors can drive a car all the way up to the top, so there is no need to worry about walking.
Beaches: without doubt, the most important attraction in the city of Lorne are the beaches of the town. Surfers from all over the state of Victoria and even Australia make their way to the town of Lorne for its awesome surf breaks.
Otway National Park: this park is a few kilometres outside the city of Lorne, but is very easily reached via van or car. Most of the locals in the town find themselves in the national park, or at least one of the state reserves located around the town, during the year for there excellent picnic spots and bushwalking tracks. Visitors will be able to find very short walks which last for less than 30 minutes, or much longer walks than last for an entire day.
Lorne Hotel: the Lorne Hotel is one of the most attractive establishments in the township. Visitors can not only enjoy some amazing dishes in the hotel, but it is a great destination to relax for a drink. The hotel is very sociable, where everybody who is anybody in the town will eventually end up after the sun goes down.
Local Pool: of course, local pools in large tourist destination don’t have much pull in regards to tourism. However, this is certainly not the case with the foreshore pool located in Lorne. It is constantly bustling with youngsters during the summer months, especially when the trampolines are used. The pool is also used by adults as well as the elderly.
Erskine River: the local river, known as Erskine River, is a very pristine and beautiful waterway located within the town of Lorne. It has become a very popular tourist destination, renowned for its ventures, including river rafting and kayaking. Some of the local companies offer paddle boating for visitors on the Erskine River too.
